You can fly to Bucharest from most London airports including London Gatwick and London Heathrow. And indeed from pretty much anywhere on the continent, including Athens, Copenhagen and even Istanbul.

There are also flights from London Luton directly to Constanta if you prefer to travel directly.

Constanta is located about 220 kilometres (about 137 miles) east of Bucharest, the capital of Romania.

This scenic coastal city sits along the shores of the Black Sea, making it a popular destination for both locals and tourists, and it makes a great day trip or a weekend getaway.

How Long Does it Take to Get from Bucharest to Constanta?

Travelling from Bucharest to Constanta is pretty straightforward and doesn’t take too long. By car, bus, train or taxi, it’s about 2.5 to 3 hours. It’s a pretty well-maintained route with plenty of places to stop for bathroom breaks and snacks.

If you opt for the train, you’re looking at a journey time of around two and a half to three hours, and you may have to change. Is it worth it? Absolutely, as there are great things to do in Constanta!

How Much is a Taxi from Bucharest to Constanta?

Taking a taxi from Bucharest to Constanta can be quite convenient, but it comes with a price tag. On average, you can expect to pay between 700 to 900 RON (about $150 to $195) for the journey.

Prices can vary based on the time of day and taxi service. While it’s a more expensive option compared to trains or buses, it offers the flexibility of door-to-door service and the comfort of a private ride, which is nice if that’s your cup of tea.

Are Trains and Buses Good in Romania?

Yes, trains and buses in Romania are generally reliable and a great way to get around Romania. The train network (CFR), covers most major cities and offers different classes.

Trains are comfortable and reasonably priced, though they can sometimes be a bit slow. Buses, on the other hand, are more frequent and can be faster for certain routes, such as the Bucharest to Constanta bus.

They are also modern and well-maintained, with many companies offering various routes and schedules.

3 Ways to Get from Bucharest to Constanta

Now that you have a better idea about the transportation system in Romania and the distance between both cities, let’s go through the three main ways to get to Constanta from Bucharest.

Bucharest to Constanta Train

Taking the train from Bucharest to Constanta is a comfortable and scenic option, and that’s arguably the best option to get there.

Trains depart from Bucharest North (Gara de Nord) and arrive at Constanta Railway Station, which is about 2.5 kilometres from the old town, or about 35-minutes walk.

The journey takes about 2.5 to 3 hours, depending on the specific train service you choose. The train route offers picturesque views of the Romanian countryside and is a popular choice.

Tickets can be purchased online or at the station, with first and second-class options available. That being said, I recommend pre-booking online on either the CFR website or Bookaway to secure your tickets.

Most trains have Wi-Fi nowadays, which makes it convenient. You’ll find different trains throughout the day, and we’ll discuss the schedule here below.

Bucharest to Constanta Train Schedule

There are plenty of trains leaving from Bucharest all day long, with the first one departing at the București Nord station at 3.15 am and arriving at 6.11 am.

If you’re not such an early bird, there are trains leaving about each hour from 7.00 am until 6.30 pm. The last train leaving from Bucharest is at 8.27 pm.

Travelling by bus from Bucharest to Constanta is another convenient and affordable option.

Buses typically depart from Autogara Filaret, Autogara GSM Trans, or Bucharest International Airport and arrive at Constanta’s main bus terminal, which is a few minutes’ walk from the railway station.

The bus ride takes approximately three to three and a half hours, depending on traffic conditions. Many bus companies operate this route, and you’ll find plenty of departures each day with modern coaches with amenities like air conditioning, and WiFi.

Just like the train from Bucharest to Constanta, you can pre-book your tickets online, and I recommend you to so that getting to Constanta is as stress-free as possible.

There are different bus companies that go to Constanta, such as Horas, SIMPA Trans, or GSM Trans. Here below, we will discuss the bus schedules.

While there are fewer options compared to the trains, you’ll still find several buses leaving to Constanta each day at the following times:

  • 3:00 am – arrival at 6:30 am
  • 10:45 am – arrival at 1.45 pm
  • 11:30 am – arrival at 3.00 pm
  • 4.00 pm – arrival at 7.30 pm

As you can see, there are fewer options when it comes to the bus to Constanta from Bucharest, but these are good enough!

Bucharest to Constanta Taxi

If you prefer a private and more comfortable way to get to Constanta, taking a taxi from Bucharest is an excellent choice.

Taxis can be booked in advance or hailed from various locations around Bucharest. The trip typically takes around two and a half to three hours via the A2 motorway, depending on traffic.

You can either stop a taxi on the street or use Uber or Bolt, both are available in Romania.

While this is the most expensive option, between 700 to 900 RON (about $150 to $195), it’s more convenient with door-to-door service and flexibility in departure times.

This makes it a great option if you have a lot of luggage or just prefer a more comfortable, private trip. Plus, you won’t have to go to the bus terminal or train station, which is a nice addition.
